Junior career

In 2016, 2017, and 2018, McNally came in second place at the Wimbledon junior doubles competition. At the 2018 French Open, she won her first Grand Slam junior title with Iga Witek. She competed in the same competition and advanced to the girls’ singles final, where she was defeated by Coco Gauff. She and Gauff won the girls’ doubles title at the US Open in September 2018.

Professional career

At the 2017 Western & Southern Open, McNally made her WTA Tour debut in the doubles draw, teaming up with Alexa Glatch.

McNally qualified as a lucky loser and advanced to the singles round of the Auckland Open, her first competition of 2020. However, she and Gauff advanced to the doubles semifinals. She advanced to the main draw at the Australian Open by winning her qualification matches. Where she first defeated Sam Stosur before falling to Zhang Shuai. McNally and Gauff achieved their greatest performance in doubles at a Grand Slam competition. Reaching the quarterfinals before losing in two sets to second-seeded Kristina Mladenovic and Tmea Babos.

McNally won the $100,000 Dow Jones Classic in February 2019. Later that month, she competed in the Indian Wells Challenger and advanced to the third round before falling to eventual champion Viktorija Golubic. She defeated Timea Bacsinszky and Kristina Plková in the qualifying for the BNP Paribas Open, which was also held in Indian Wells.
